Civic Engagement Campaign

Minnesota’s Primary takes place this coming week on Tuesday, August 14th. If you are not registered, you can register at your polling place. If you are not sure where it is, you can easily find your polling place here.

Mount Zion is participating in the Reform Movement’s Civic Engagement Campaign leading with our values of being engaged citizens. This is non-partisan work. It will mean engaging people of all political parties to be active in supporting their candidates of choice and knowing that their vote counts. As it says in Deuteronomy (22:3), “You shall not hide yourself,” to which 11th century commentator Rashi teaches, “You must not cover your eyes, pretending not to see.” Participating in the common good, in politics, in the public square is inextricably connected with being a religious person.

We are working towards 100% congregation voting. You will hear a lot more about this campaign in the coming weeks as we work on getting all congregants registered and out to the polls. We will also host candidate forums with dates to be determined, and civic engagement discussions taking place this Friday, August 10 and Friday, October 12 with more information to follow.
