March Food Drive
On behalf of the Women of Mount Zion Temple (WMZT), we invite you to help Mount Zion achieve our overall goal of raising $20,000 for Neighborhood House’s March Food Drive. Neighborhood House was founded by Mount Zion in 1897 to assist Jewish immigrants with food, housing, clothing, and language needs, and general acculturation for living successfully in Minnesota. It continues that effort today with various immigrant groups (from over 40 countries) that have arrived in Minnesota since then.
We ask that, if you are able, to please make a financial donation this year. The organization prefers monetary donations as it can purchase more food and household goods at a better price point than we can. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500 – every little bit helps (a donation of $60 covers the cost of groceries for a family of four for one week. A donation of $240 will cover the cost of groceries for a family of four for a month). We will also accept donations of food and personal hygiene/cleaning items at the Temple and transport them to the Wellstone Center. Funds raised during the March Food Drive will be matched by Minnesota Foodshare.
Here are ways to participate in the March Food Drive. Note that we have designated the first method as “Preferred Methods” as the donations are submitted by Mount Zion Congregants (through the Temple’s fundraising page) directly to Neighborhood House. Mailed donations (while perfectly acceptable) go directly to the Temple and must then be forwarded administratively by the Temple to Neighborhood House. The Preferred Methods eliminate this additional bookkeeping step. Your charitable donation, receipt, and tax deduction remain the same in all cases.
- Neighborhood House (Preferred Method). Congregants can donate through a new Neighborhood House donation link specific to the Temple. This is different than the general Neighborhood House donation link we have used in the past; it will now allow us to readily obtain information from Neighborhood House as to the amount of online donations made by our Congregation. Contributions will be tax-deductible and donors will receive a receipt. Donate here.
- Facebook. Congregants can donate through the new Neighborhood House donations page on the Mount Zion Temple Facebook page (and the Mount Zion Conversations Facebook page). All contributions will be tax-deductible and donors will receive a receipt. This will provide real-time information as to the amounts donated. Note that only Facebook users will be able to use this method. Donate here.
- Mail Checks. Congregants can mail checks payable to Mount Zion Temple to the Temple (specify Mitzvah Foodshelf on the subject line). Congregants without computer access will receive a communication from the Temple by regular mail about the March Food Drive and can mail in a check to the Temple for the Mitzvah Foodshelf. These donations are tax-deductible and your check is your receipt. Please mail donations to Mount Zion Temple, Attn: Janelle, 1300 Summit Ave, St. Paul, MN 55105.
Thank you for your participation in this fundraiser and your generosity! If you have any questions about the March Food Drive, please contact Sue Grupe.
