Learn the third most popular language in the U.S.A. This hands-on and interactive class will teach you the basics of ASL, the five parameters that make ASL an official language, about the deaf community, their culture and cultural norms. Participants will also learn about the Deafblind Community, Tactile ASL, and Protactile. The class will have guest presenter panel that allows participants to interact and use their signing skills at the end of the 6-week course.
Teacher: Jessalyn Akerman-Frank is a Deaf ASL teacher, a member of Mount Zion Temple, has a Masters in Deaf Education from the University of Minnesota and has been teaching ASL for over ten years. All funds earned from this class will go to support Mount Zion hiring American Sign Language Interpreters for its Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing members who attend Temple.
