Hatikvah – Looking to the Future During Challenging Times

Sun April 24, 2022 at 10:00 am - 11:15 am

A Journey of Hope from Prophecy to Poetry to National Anthem to Pop Band
A new session with Mike Hollander – Live from Modiin, Israel!

Sunday, April 24, 10:00-11:15 am via Zoom – No cost but RSVP is required for the zoom link.

This session focuses on the idea of Hope/Hatikvah, which is Israel’s national anthem. As the late British Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks said, “…that is what it is to be a Jew. You never let go of hope…we are the people who gave the concept of hope to the world.” This session begins with the biblical period, and crosses millennia of Jewish memory to the present, to understand how hope for a better future has helped keep the Jewish people alive. More than our national anthem composed in the late 19th century by an eccentric bohemian, in fact Hatikvah/the Hope is a crucial part of the Jewish DNA.

Mike was the much beloved Tour Educator for Mount Zion’s 2006 Israel Trip. He was born in Canada and made Aliyah to Modiin, Israel in 1988. Before making Aliyah, he completed his BA degree at York University, Toronto in History and began his MA degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Tel Aviv University. He completed his MA from the Cambridge Center for Jewish-Christian Relations in 2008. Jewish education has always been Mike’s passion and he began to guide in 1994.
