Join us as we explore Wilkerson’s provocative expose of the ways that caste permeates our nation. Each session will address various aspects of the book but will focus on the overarching structure of a Caste system in the United States and the implications of that system. Questions to be considered are:
- How is it that our racialized inequalities have persisted for over 400 years but are also able to “shape-shift”, generating new patterns of violence and injustice in each generation?
- How can we draw on our Jewish values as we re-examine our own experiences in relation to Caste?
- What can we learn from the contrasting ways that the United States and Germany have addressed historical atrocities?
- What work can we do locally to challenge and dismantle this caste system?
We invite you to attend all three sessions, if you are able! (And you are welcome to attend just one.) We hope to deepen our conversation in each discussion. Our sessions will feature a panel discussion offering a 15-minute reflection on the book, followed by small group discussions and brainstorming on truth-telling and reparations.
