Ramsey County Sheriff Town Hall

October 24, 2018 at 7:30 pm

Who’s the Sheriff? Come find out in a Town Hall at Mount Zion!

Doors open at 7 pm and the event will begin promptly at 7:30 pm
Moderated by Anika Robbins
The event is free of charge. All are welcome.

Should the Ramsey County inform federal immigration agents about whom the Sheriff’s Office holds in jail?  What kind of training and review does the Sheriff’s Office conduct to track racial profiling and outcomes in county-wide law enforcement? How does the county jail deal with detainees who are experience mental illness?

Next year the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office will spend $59 million dollars and execute policies that affect thousands of individuals and families. As Election Day draws closer, we’re committed to providing a space to inform and educate our community about the candidates running to lead this office.

What does the Ramsey County Sheriff do?

  • Runs the county jail, which can hold as many as 500 people before trial
  • Enforces warrants issued by the Ramsey County court
  • Provides policing services for 7 cities in Ramsey County with a combined population of 75,000 people

Join JCA, the Decriminalizing Communities Coalition and Mount Zion Temple for a non-partisan town hall with candidates running for Ramsey County Sheriff. There will be opportunities to ask questions, and hear from the candidates.

NOTE: In the interest of holding an open conversation, we have invited both candidates for Ramsey County Sheriff: the incumbent, Jack Serier; and the challenger, Bob Fletcher. At this time, only Mr. Serier has confirmed his plan to attend. We view this event as an important opportunity for any and all candidates to engage with the community they will serve. And we will conduct a thoughtful conversation about how Ramsey County should run the Sheriff’s Office.
