Piloting a New Torah Translation: Torah as T’filah

Three Shabbat Mornings: Saturdays, December 30, January 6, and 13, 10:00-11:45 am

Please note that this is a change from our typical Shabbat morning: We will frame our 90 minutes of study with the Shabbat morning prayers. A potluck lunch follows as always.

Mount Zion is one of a number of synagogues piloting a new Torah translation and commentary that will eventually replace the Rabbi Plaut version we currently use. For us, this is bittersweet news. Rabbi Plaut served Mount Zion in the 1950s as he wrote our commentary which is used around the world in the Reform Movement.

The CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis) will publish the new Torah Commentary and is focused now on getting feedback on their completely new translation. If you love Torah and have any background in our study groups, we value your opinion! There will be feedback forms that we will send to the CCAR. Try to come to as many of the Shabbat mornings as possible. Each Shabbat will focus on a different section of Torah (from Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus.)

We are experimenting with this format for Shabbat morning for the purpose of having time to pilot this translation, not to change our Shabbat morning service format going forward.

In personShabbat mornings at Mount Zion are a joy! Come join any Shabbat for reflection, song, community, and a potluck lunch.
