Refugee Shabbat with Pulpit Guest Fred Amram

Fri March 5, 2021 at 6:00 pm

I’ll speak about my experience with HIAS from the time they helped rescue our family from Germany to the time they helped us resettle in New York City. The story is bittersweet.”

Fred M.B. Amram and his wife Sandra Brick are longtime members of Mount Zion. Fred is a retired University of Minnesota professor of communication and creativity and the author of a memoir: We’re in America Now: A Survivor’s Stories.

Refugee Shabbat is sponsored by HIAS, formerly the Hebrew Immigrant Aid society. Guided by Jewish values and history, HIAS brings more that 130 years of expertise to their work with refugees. HIAS stands for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety, and freedom, rescues people whose lives are in danger for being who they are, advocates for the protection of refugees, and assures that displaced people are treated with the dignity they deserve.
