All are welcome to join us as together we recall the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem. Tisha B’Av recalls the gratuitous hatred, sinat chinam, that existed between Jews during the Roman period. Having a combined service of congregations from diverse movements represents our aspirations to create gratuitous love – ahavat chinam.
Three Modern Poetic Laments on the Holocaust with Dr. Jonathan Paradise, emeritus professor of Hebrew in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Studies, University of Minnesota. He established the program and the major in Hebrew Studies and later worked to establish the program and major in Jewish Studies. He taught a wide variety of courses until his retirement in 2003. Professor Paradise was also visiting professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire until his retirement in 2013.
