A conversation with bereaved parent Diana Marash
Throughout Israel’s young history, many young Israelis have paid the ultimate price to preserve the existence of Israel. Diana Marash’s son Daniel died in the 2014 Gaza conflict, at age 22. Since Daniel’s death, Diana and her husband Arie have spoken all across Israel about Daniel’s life and about how they cope as bereaved parents. We are honored to welcome Diana to Mount Zion to share her family’s story.
The Marash family lives in Rishon LeZion in central Israel. Diana works at Ben Gurion Airport’s duty-free shop. She emigrated from Russia in 1990. Last year, Community Shlicha Tal Dror put together biographical posters of 36 young people who are among the thousands remembered each year during Israel’s Memorial Day (Yom Ha Zikaron). She wanted to convey the heavy price paid by so many—deaths and casualties have touched almost every family and every circle of friends in Israel. Daniel Marash was one of the 36 memorialized by Dror.
