← Back to all Mount Zion Groups

Many of us often reminisce about the old days, when our parents (in our case, our fathers) would routinely get together with their friends and neighbors over breakfast, to schmooze and in many cases, to share bad Jewish jokes. We hope to capture a bit of that vibe today, as well as providing an ideal way to meet and connect with others within the temple community.

Jon Strauss and Phil Goldman will begin by collecting a master list of men that are interested in taking part, hoping to span the temple’s broadest range in terms of geography, age, and interests. Using that list, they will periodically (every 2-3 mos.) create and send out a listing of multiple, random “small groups” having 5 or 6 guys each. The first named guy in each group will take the lead on organizing their respective group over that period, finding a time and place to have a breakfast, lunch, or even an afternoon beer or evening scotch. The specifics of each (one time only) gathering will be up to the group, and will be “dutch treat”, with no required timing or location, and no obligation or agenda other than to have fun, and get to know each other.

The following 2-3 month period will have new groups, new gatherings, and quite likely, the same old jokes.

    Mid-winter Outdoor Nosh!

    Sat January 29, 2022 at 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Waldmann Brewery (a block or two off the north end of the St Paul High Bridge) will again be hosting patrons on their (heat lamp and fireplace heated) patio for the next two Saturdays, from 5-8pm.  See attached photos from this past weekend. I checked it out this past weekend with a half liter, brat and spatzel of my own (what i won’t do for the Noshers) and it was quite comfortable even at 9 degrees and snowing.  This coming Saturday promises to be as good or better. Let me know if you can make it  and if we can get critical mass (i.e., me and someone else) we’ll consider it a go! Proof of vaccination or negative Covid test with 24 hours required. (and well behaved dogs are welcome on the patio!)

    Whiskey Tasting Event!

    Thu May 11, 2023 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

We have a long awaited special event coming up! Random Mount Zion Noshers will get to share their favorite whiskeys in a schmoozing and taste testing event! We will provide cups, ice, water, iced tea, seltzer, pizza, and other set-ups.

Location: Given out to all who RSVP to Phil Goldman.

What to bring: bring a bottle that is meaningful to you in some way. You can select from a variety of different types of whiskeys, so that we can experience a variety of flavors. Some popular types of whiskey to include are bourbon, scotch, rye, and Irish whiskey, but feel free to experiment!

We will ask everyone to tell a bit about the whiskey they choose, whether based on their own preference, a personal history, recommendations on line, or from a liquor store clerk.

The main task is to enjoy! The most important part of any whiskey tasting event is to enjoy yourself. So relax, have a drink, and schmooze with fellow Mount Zion friends!

RSVP to Phil Goldman for the address, and so we can get an approximate count in advance.
