Shabbat with Kids

Friday night

The first Shabbat evening service of the month begins at 6:30 p.m. and usually features a story appropriate for children and adults alike in place of a sermon. During the school year, Shir Tzion, our children’s choir participates.

Children are welcome to attend any of our Shabbat services throughout the month. If they need a break from the sanctuary. All services are shown on closed-circuit TV in the Sisterhood Lounge (in the back of the Chapel). If you need to take your child(ren)out of services, please feel free to enjoy this comfortable viewing space. All children need to be accompanied by an adult. Childcare is also available for children up to 4 years old during Shabbat evening service in room 103. At the end of the service, all children are brought back into the sanctuary for Motzi and to lead the congregation to our oneg Shabbat, dessert reception, a time for people to meet one another and to socialize.

Saturday Morning

We hold Tot Shabbat at 10:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. We begin with a lively Shabbat morning service led by one of our clergy and a songleader using the children’s siddur (prayer book), Gates of Wonder. Lap children, toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome! Older siblings may also participate. ¬†Our program and service is inclusive of all family compositions.

After the service, everyone is invited to stay for kiddush, motzi, a healthy, nut-free vegetarian potluck lunch (but please come even if you are not able to bring a dish to share!) and an activity. This informal time gives families an opportunity to schmooze.
